For the public good

What is pro bono legal aid?

Pro bono publico (“for the public good”) is legal work advocates take up voluntarily, without a fee. It exists because Article 39A of the Constitution of India promises equal justice and free legal aid, and the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 recognises that the right to a lawyer should not depend on the ability to pay.

The same advocates who handle our commercial matters set aside dedicated hours for individuals and families who cannot afford counsel: listening first, advising honestly, and appearing in court where a case is accepted.

Is your case eligible for free legal support?

Our capacity is limited and we prioritise genuine hardship. If most points below describe your situation, there’s a strong chance we can help, or point you to the right door.

  • You are unable to afford private legal representation right now
  • You belong to a category entitled to free legal aid — women, children, SC/ST, industrial workmen, persons with disability, or victims of disaster or trafficking
  • Your annual income falls below the legal-aid income ceiling notified in your state
  • The matter involves a genuine legal grievance, not a commercial dispute
  • You are seeking honest guidance, even if it is only a first legal direction

Why it matters

Why free legal aid matters

  1. A constitutional promise

Article 39A of the Constitution directs the State to secure equal justice and free legal aid. Access to law should never depend on the ability to pay.

  2. Delay deepens hardship

Wages withheld, maintenance unpaid, eviction threatened — legal problems compound quickly when a person cannot act in time.

  3. The awareness gap is real

Most people entitled to relief simply do not know their rights, the forum to approach, or the documents they need.

  4. Protection for the vulnerable

Women, senior citizens, workers and students are the most frequent targets of exploitation — and the least equipped to fight back alone.

  5. Dignity through justice

A fair hearing restores more than money or property. It restores a person’s standing, confidence and peace of mind.
